The subject of dark spots is a bitter sweet topic for me. I love to talk about it so I can learn more about correcting, preventing and getting rid of it. On the other hand, I cringe at the topic since I fall into the category of women who rarely wore sunscreen in her early twenties and now I’m paying for it. Now, I wear nothing less than SPF 50 on my face every single day, rain or shine.
For the past several years, I’ve tried pretty much everything recommended by magazines, beauty editors, friends and beauty counter experts. Correcting dark spots require a steadily commitment of putting it on twice a day, everyday for months to see results. And since correcting these spots on my face has become a top priority in my skincare routine, I’ve religiously put on these serums day and night.
So far, the winner for me is Clinique’s Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector. It’s so popular that you can find them at Costco stores for less. The serum is lightweight, doesn’t clog pores and doesn’t have a strong scent. I’ve used about 4 bottles in the past 2 years (after switching brands a few times) and I continue to come back to this product. I see my dark spots getting lighter (not fading) and my skin seems to appear more even.
Another product I really like is Caudalie’s Anti-Dark Spot & Radiance Set as seen below. Packaged like a travel set, it comes with a serum, an SPF 15 lotion, night cream and enzymatic peel mask.
My favorite is the serum. It glides on my skin smoothly and it’s also very lightweight. The smell is fantastic and I wake up with a softer, more even-toned skin. The night cream was a bit too heavy and oily for me so I stopped using that. The lotion and mask were fantastic.
The back of this box shows a before/after image of a dark spot. I don’t think mine has had this affect (maybe not yet) but I’m hoping that it will!
My least favorite product was Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution. After finishing the entire bottle (as you can see from the empty bottle above), I saw no difference in my skin tone and I occasionally broke out after use. It felt sticky and this did clog my pores. On top of that, it smelled like awful medicine. (Sorry, Kiehl’s. This did not work. But I still love many of your other products!)
As for Kinerase’s Photofacial Night Moisturizer, I’m on the fence. I really hate the smell and the texture. But this one evens out my skin tone and my spots appear to be lighter. I was told this one takes patience as it takes a while for it to show results.
